Dr. Timothy Harris teaches applied saxophone and ear training as a Lecturer in Music (Saxophone) at the University of North Alabama. Prior to joining UNA full-time in Fall 2021, he served on faculties of the University of Mobile, Mississippi State University, and UNA all in adjunct roles while also maintaining an active teaching schedule in Birmingham, AL. He holds degrees in saxophone performance from the University of Alabama and the Eastman School of Music.

While at Eastman, Dr. Harris played in the groundbreaking Eastman Saxophone Project (ESP) and served as the saxophone studio’s Graduate Teaching Assistant. At Alabama, he gained considerable experience teaching saxophone, music theory, and music appreciation. His doctoral recording project, Cello Works for Saxophone, includes transcribed chamber works by Brahms, Mendelssohn, Mozart, and Mahler and can be found on all major online distributors. He performed Brahms’s Cello Sonata No. 1 in E minor from this album at the 2019 North American Saxophone Alliance Regional Conference in Oxford, Mississippi. More recently, he taught as a guest artist for the Fall 2021 International Saxophone Academy season, presenting on practice and memorization techniques.

Dr. Harris plays baritone saxophone for the prize-winning East End Quartet and soprano saxophone for Birmingham-based Yellowhammer Saxophone Quartet, and he considers chamber music to be his foremost musical passion. His primary teachers are Dr. Jonathan Noffsinger and Dr. Chien-Kwan Lin. He and his wife Amy live in Florence with their three boys, Samuel, Silas, and Sumner.
